From: "CNY Latino - Hugo Acosta" <hacosta@cnylatino.com>
Hi everyone..!
For a while I though we all disappeared since I
haven't heard from any in a long time...
A suddenly death in the family forced me to
leave the country for a while, and had to put aside some errands and
other obligations. However, I did followed up with the "Save the date"
part of my promotional assignment on March 24th and I mailed some
letters of invitations on April 1st to some of the addresses I got from
the "little" databases I received. I also tried to connect for the last
meeting, but after holding for about 8 to 10 minutes, I didn't get
anybody in phone conference.
The Latino Upstate Summit website was activated
on March 20, and it is live at the following URL address:
http://www.latinoupstatesummit.org
As you can see there are some sections
(web-pages) that either need content (material to describe the topic of
that page), or need to be enhanced to a better content. For instance, I
need individual information of every and each one of the organizations
that are either organizing this event, or participating somehow in the
making of it. Lourdes, I need information about you, and about the first
Latino Upstate Summit. I also need from somebody in Rochester, to put
together factual information about "Latinos in Rochester", to compliment
"the State of Latinos" section (I will put together the part for the
Nation and maybe Alberto Gonzales will do the part for New York
state..?)
Need a better content from what it is placed in
the "ORGANIZERS' page (organizers.html), specially material that should
have been developed by Lourdes Iglesias
I wanted the "floating images" of the homepage
to be with "Sponsors" logos (instead of the "organizers" like it is
now), we need to get the logos of the Sponsors we are going to have.
(like I temporarily placed in the "sponsors" section [sponsors.html],
therefore, I need to know about those sponsors (if we have any, besides
Excellus), so I can place those images in the homepage
A similar floating images" script is placed in
the "Organizers" section, which means I need the "real" logo for each
one of our organizations. I need everybody's logos in a compatible
digital format (.jpeg format) in two
sizes: rectangular (no more than 150 dpi and
inside the 300 x 60 pixels) AND square (no more than 150 dpi and inside
the 150 x 50 pixels)
The placement of Secondary banners is
arbitrary... if a "Sponsorship package procedure" is not established and
followed, the committee (or somebody) should decide what banners to
place where.
I need content for the following sections:
Latinos in NY State [latinostate.htm] (by
Alberto Gonzales) Information about the very first Summit in Buffalo [pastLUS.htm
] (by Lourdes Iglesias) Information about Lourdes Iglesias [LourdesIglesias.html]
(by Lourdes Iglesias)
I need information about the Sponsors we have
(so far) to be placed in the "LIST OF SPONSORS" section of the website (ListSponsors.html)
Maybe I need a better content from what it is
placed in the "ORGANIZERS'
page [organizers.html], specially material that
should have been developed by Lourdes Iglesias
I mailed about 190 "Save the Date" cards in the
middle of March, I got about 20 returned, and a few dozen answered; I am
planning to send more this coming week (need more databases from some of
you). I am also planning to contact a couple of Radio stations in
Rochester and Syracuse, to start getting an idea what will it take to
get promotion through these medias (I might need some help to reach the
Albany and Buffalo radio markets). I will also send "press releases" to
newspapers and other media list I have in my database, maybe by June or
so (if you have your own Media list that you can share with mine,
please, submit it to append it and check if I have any missing contact
or similar).
Attached to this email,
I placed a sample of the
letter I prepared last month, with the intention to request notice of
interest, since I didn't have much more information to provide. If
approved, this is meant to be sent to some key people, to see the
possible interest for the possible participation in the summit. Without
having some numbers and more specific information about the summit (like
fees, schedules, etc.), I could not send a more formalized letter,
indicating those specifics.
There is going to be other issues I will bring
during the meeting today (I will be present in Rochester, since I have a
meeting scheduled there by 1:00 PM). Hopefully all the stuff from my
part will be cleared out and ready for promotion and advertisement

The Capital District 100 Hispanic Women
To
All Members:
On May 3, 2008, the NYS Office and Temporary and Disability Assistance
and the NYS Office of Children and Family Services, along with the
Albany New York Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. will be hosting a
"Youth Empowerment Summit" at the New York State United Teachers
(NYSUT) Headquarters located at 800 Troy-Schenectady Road in Latham,
NY 12110. The summit will be host to 140 teenagers (ages 13-18 years)
from various youth organizations around the Capital Region.
The Capital District 100 Hispanic Women has been allocated 10 youth
participant slots (5 females & 5 males) for children of members of our
chapter. The ages of the youth participants must be between 13 - 18
years old. The Board Member organizing this activity for the youth of
our chapter is Gloria Herman (Treasurer of the Board), who is the
designated chaperone. Gloria will be attending with her son. If you
are interested in having your teen son or daughter attend this summit,
please contact Gloria as soon as possible at
GCCS0408@yahoo.com.
These slots will be filled "first come - first serve" in the order
that they are received.
The Youth Empowerment Summit is scheduled to be held from 9:00 am -
4:30 pm. The day will open with a plenary session and a keynote
address, followed by a day of youth centered workshops. The workshops
will include several of the following topics: Financial
Responsibility, Community Service, Impact of Media on Youth, Conflict
Resolution, Employment and Careers, Parenting Risk and Responsibility
and more.
The summit will close with an open forum and discussion on various
topics of the day. There is no cost for participation in the Youth
Empowerment Summit, however, all youth participants will need to
submit a parental consent form which will allow their child to
participate in a questionnaire study. This is included as a zipped
attachment to this email, along with a Summit Flyer and draft
descriptions of the workshops.
Again, please contact Gloria at her e-mail of
GCCS0408@yahoo.com if
you are interested in your child attending this summit. This is a
wonderful opportunity for all youth, and upon reading the workshop
descriptions of this summit, it looks to be a great one!

The Ducks
are here Albany
I am pleased to announce that Albany will now have DUCK tours.
I have partnered with two other gentlemen and we will offer tours of
Albany on a Hydra-Terra vehicle that will start the tour on land, then
splash down the Corning Preserve ramp into the Hudson, and finish the
tour over water. The tours will be informative, but most of all fun!
The DUCK has 46 seats, roll down windows and a bathroom. We will
begin in May. There will be scheduled tours everyday that leave the
Visitors Center at Quackenbush Square. You will also see us at City and
area events. We already have charter bookings for everything from
company outings to children's birthday parties. Now you can come
downtown and make a day out of it!
Our website is
www.albanyaquaducks.com
Please help us spread the word by forwarding this message to some
friends who might be interested.
Thanks for looking!
